The first five versions of these Contour Coke bottles are easily identified by their embossing:

01. Athens "PAT'D NOV.16 1915" were produced from 1917 to 1928.  This style bottle was produced in clear, blue, or green.

02. Athens "PAT'D DEC. 25 1923" (called the "Christmas Cokes") (called the "Christmas Cokes" but NOT issued for Christmas) were produced from 1928 to 1938.  These bottles were usually green or clear.

If you collect by glass maker, you may add about 10 % to the value for makers other than Chattanooga and Laurens.  Chattanooga is the C in a circle like the copyright symbol or may read "CHATT".  Laurens is the L or may read "LGW".  These are the most common on the Athens Coke bottles, with Chattanooga being the most common of all.  An embossed straight line underneath the name Athens is a mark that indicates Root Glass Company produced the bottle.  Root is fairly common on the 1923's.  Learn more about root, click here.

The bottles that have "Return for Deposit" have a random base, so not made specifically for the Athens, but because they do read "Athens GA" and one in good condition is very difficult to find, if you are collecting Athens bottles, it is a must have bottle for the Athens collector.

This bottle is difficult to find.  Most people think that these bottles are all the same because they all say Atlanta on the front.  Most people do not realize that the town name is on the back of the bottle.
